Planet Earth – A Scientific Journey
2019-05-09 - 2019-05-10
The symposium will focus on a subject of crucial importance to all, the planet that we live on. The program seeks to provide a comprehensive scientific overview of the planet itself, the development of its physical characteristics and eco-systems as well as the origin and evolution of the life in its many forms that inhabits these. The invited speakers offer a broad range of disciplines and experience, together these provide an exciting and synergistic compilation of knowledge. In keeping with the Molecular Frontiers mission, the program seeks to educate, inspire and share the promise of discovery both in the laboratory as well as in the field to all who participate, however is especially geared towards encouraging young people. This program is expected to include the largest selection of students, these will be joining from throughout Sweden, elsewhere in Europe, US and Asia.
Organizers: Molecular frontiers and The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
When: 9-10 May 2019
Where: Aula Magna, Stockholm University
The program will look at the planet from its very beginnings, consider the origin of life and evolution in its various forms. It will also look at physical earth and biodiversity of its crust as well as all that surrounds planet. It will also look at earth from the inside out, offering a comprehensive assessment of the planet and its current inhabitants and the biodiversity that sustains these.
The last portion of the symposium will be focused on what science might hold for the planet’s future and will include examples of how science is already positioned to enhance and help sustain our world. This will include a look at possible future earth models going forward submitted by the students themselves. With the help of the Molecular Frontiers Student Ambassadors and Jason Learning, a global STEM learning program www.jason.org, students from around the world will be asked to submit their proposals/ideas for future earth. The entries will be considered by the Molecular Frontiers Foundation and Molecular Frontiers Scientific Advisory Board.
The best of these submissions will be selected for display during the symposium program. The winning entries, 1st, 2nd, 3rd will receive the Molecular Frontiers Journal prize and be invited to produce an article for the digital open-source publication.
